At the end of the third day’s qualifying events Great Britain again performed well in the Junior and Senior qualifiers ahead of this weekend’s European Team and Individual Finals. Tonight we saw the first Team Medals of the European Championships in the Senior and Junior Events, as the best 4 places for each team ( two groups and two different pairs ) were converted into points. If there are 20 countries competing then a first place wins 20 points, 2nd 19 etc. The country who wins the most points is declared European Champions! After a simply stunning set of routines in Qualifiers, there could only be one medal winner in the Senior Event, and Russia proved their superiority with an amazing 60 points to take the Gold medal, a whole 9 points in front of Ukraine who won Silver! The Great Britain Team were just 2 points behind on 49 points as they won the bronze medals after tieing with Bulgaria, but taking the bronze medal due to rules which apply to European Championships. Congratulations to our Senior GB Team on a great result!

Our Juniors also did us proud as they stormed to a Silver Medal in the Junior Team Rankings after scoring a total of 71 with consistently good scores across the board with 3 18’s, a 17 and a 16, to snatch a terrific second place. With the Russian’s in awesome form with scores of 19 in all 5 events, they are a worthy winner of the Junior European Team Championships for 2005, with Ukraine winning bronze. Our teams have worked so hard to compete against the very best in Europe and we are very proud of their incredible achievements!

Russia are leading in 9 of the 10 events in Seniors and Juniors, and placed 2nd in the 10th event, and are strong favourites for a host of European Titles in this weekend’s Finals.

Here are the top 5 positions in each Qualifier so far as we head towards this weekend’s finals of the Team and Individual European Championships for the Senior and Junior Teams :-
