BETH AIMS FOR HER SIXTH BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIPS TITLE THIS WEEKEND! SEE ALL THE ACTION IN BG’S FIRST FREE LIVE WEB BROADCAST THIS SUNDAY! We are so looking forward to this weekend’s British Artistic Championships in Guildford as Beth Tweddle aims for her sixth consecutive British Title, as Britain’s outstanding success at World, Commonwealth and International level places GB firmly amongst the elite gymnastics nations. This is our favourite competition of the year and the packed Guildford Spectrum will witness one of the most compelling Championships for many years as the gymnasts compete under the new Code of Points with new challengers moving to the Junior and Senior ranks aiming to challenge the established stars for podium places. Seniors ( 16 and above) Saturday 8th July 17-20 All Around and Sunday 9th July 11am Individual Apparatus Finals
Five time British Champion Beth will be aiming for her place in the record books as she goes for her 6th consecutive All Around British Title on Saturday evening. Beth also completed an amazing performance at the 2005 British Championships by winning Gold in all 4 Individual Apparatus Finals! She then became GB’s first ever Senior European Champion on her speciality A-Bars in the 2006 European Championships, and also won Gold on Bars at the GB v China International in June. Beth will be challenged by 2005 British Silver Medalist Sam Bayley from The Welsh Institute of Sport who also won bronze in the Vault and Bars Finals. Imogen Cairns from The Academy has had a terrific year winning bronze on Vault in the recent GB v China International, and finishing 4th in the All Around plus a Silver Medal on Vault at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourn. Imogen also won Silver medals on Vault and Floor plus the All Around Bronze at the 2005 British Championships. Other top contenders include City of Liverpool team mate Melanie Roberts, 4th in British 2005, Bristol Hawk’s Rhian Pugh who will be keen to get back to her competitive best after her recovery from injury, and Rosalie Hutton from Pipers Vale who won Bronze in the Beam Finals last year. One of the most exciting new faces in the Senior Competition is Amy Nunes from Heathrow who won bronze in the All Around Junior Event in 2005 plus Gold in the Vault and Beam Individual Apparatus Finals. Amy was also part of the English Team who won Silver Medals in at the ISF World School Games last week, plus Silver on Beam. Liverpool’s Aisling Williams also represented England at the ISF World School Games after her recovery from injury and will also mount a strong challenge. Sadly Shavahn Church who won Silver on A-Bars at the Commonwealth Games and has made a huge contribution to Great Britain’s International success at the World Championships, European Championships and Commonwealth Games looks to be out of of the Championships as she continues her recovery from injury. We hope that Shavahn will be back soon as her Bars routine in particular is superb and would make a fascinating competition with European Champion Beth for the British Title, as Shavahn brings her American background and adds a new dimension to the GB Team. Juniors ( 14-16 years old) Saturday 8th July 11-20am
The Junior Championships features the top 4 gymnasts from the 2005 Espoires who all move to Juniors including the 2005 British Espoires All Around Champion Becky Downie from Notts Gym Club. Becky also won Gold on Vault and Silver on Floor in the Individual Apparatus Finals. Becky has had an outstanding year as she became the youngest competitor in the Commonwealth Games winning Bronze in the Beam Finals. She then competed at the European Championships finishing 6th on Floor and 9th in the All Around. Her biggest challengers include Notts team mate Laura Jones who won Silver in the 2005 Espoires Championships plus Gold Medals on Beam and Floor, with a bronze on bars rounding off a superb performance. Abi Kirby from City of Liverpool will also feature after wining bronze in Espoirs All Around, Gold on Bars, 2 Silvers on Vault and Beam plus bronze on Floor, Abi has recovered from her hand injury suffered just before the British Team Championships and could be a strong medal contender. Hannah Whelan from Vernon Park completes the top 4 gymnast’s from Espoires who will compete in Saturday’s Junior Finals, and also finished 4th in Floor and Bars last year with a fine performance. Other top contenders include Becky Wing from Heathrow who was excellent at the British Team Championships, and won bronze in the All Around at the ISF World School Games last week, and helped England win a Team Silver! Hannah Freeman also moves to Juniors after wining a Silver Medal on Bars plus bronze on Vault last year. Other top contenders include Hannah Clowes from City of Liverpool and Wigan’s Zoe Allen. Espoirs ( 12-14 years old) Friday 7th July 12-30pm
The Espoires Event could be one of the most open competitions with lots of new faces making their debut’s at the Espoires Championships. This is one of the most exciting events as the youngest of our gymnasts at the Championships may lead the GB challenge for medals in London 2012. Names to look out for include Jordan Lipton ( shown above) from Notts, who came 5th in the 2005 Espoir’s All Around, plus 4th on Bars in the Apparatus Finals. Jordan is joined by Notts team mates Niamh Rippin and Chelsie Orme who will compete in the Espoir’s Championships for the first time. Heathrow are represented by Danusia Francis and Nicole Hibbert who could well be on the Podium as both gymnasts perform high quality routines with good technical ability. Jennifer Pinches from Sandbach, Tori Simpson from Huntingdon and Wiltshire’s Katie Moffatt could also be amongst the top gymnast’s in this group. British Gymnastics is committed to increasing the broadcasting of Gymnastics events and is running this Pilot internet broadcast with Sportsgate and its Broadband TV partner Narrowstep as part of an assessment of future possibilities. It is hoped that this first trial will lead to coverage of many events that have not been possible before, and eventually provide a service for clubs to send in their videos of regional competitions for broadcasting. What is Broadband TV? It is viewing of pre-recorded and live broadcast filming using your computer screen. When viewing the broadcasting website using your computer, you will see a schedule of events being broadcast, just like normal TV programmes, and you can watch what is currently being transmitted, or look at previous events The HIGHLIGHTS button will show selected screening.
No, there are no fees you have to pay. There will always be some free to view content showing. Because of the high costs of filming some events, there will be subscription charges for selected events. You only have to pay if you want to watch these.
